Norson is a half-frost-giant half-elven devoted evoker played by [[Randi]]. Norson (the elven word for giant; the emphasis is on the second syllable) was the product of rape and for this reason was shunned from the elven community. His hatred and anger toward the elves who mistreated him throughout his childhood has grown into a burning passion to destroy the elven nation.

== Backstory ==
Norson is a half-elf half-frost giant, a child of uncommon circumstances. His father, [[Gurnurok]], lead a barbaric tribe of frost giants that lived in the mountains on the edge of the elven kingdom of [[Thalorian]]. Gurnurok was short for his kind, which only made him more angry and savage than the rest. He was teased and bullied when he was young, creating a deep desire to prove himself. Upon coming of age, he savagely killed the chieftain of the tribe and took over as its new leader. Gurnurok raided many settlements in his time – mostly human ones – and fought numerous battles. One of the last raids he planned was on a secluded elven village on the borders of the elven nation.

The village was small; only a hundred elves or so lived in it and the surrounding forest. Norson's mother, [[Erúvë Elen]], was the healer of the village. She was a peaceful elf who had a motherly presence to her. During the frost giant raid on the elven village, she was out in the forest gathering herbs and encountered Gurnurok, who brutally raped her. Being the sole healer in the village, there were none to tend her wounds immediately, and as a result she suffer irreversible harm. She survived the encounter and was impregnated by Norson's father. The size of the baby she carried caused her great pain throughout the pregnancy. [[Luhton]], the local wizard, worked his magic to reduce Erúvë's suffering. He caused her body to grow to help her accommodate the large baby inside her. Although his magic helped ease her pain, Erúvë died during childbirth.

A week after the frost giant raid, an elven brigade tracked down the giant clan and ambushed them, killing everyone, including Norson's father Gurnurok. After Norson was born, the wizard Luhton took him in and gave him his name – Norson – meaning "giant" in Elvish. After months of turmoil and argument, the village council voted to banish Norson to the hills, for none in the village wanted such a reminder of that dreadful night to walk among them. The sentence was surely a death sentence for someone so young. Luhton took pity on Norson and secretly sent him to colleagues of his at a far off wizard academy. There, he reasoned, he could grow into elven culture away from the prejudice or the villagers.

His new caretakers showed great interest at first, but after the years passed and Norson grew, he was no longer the interesting specimen he used to be. The wizards at the academy treated him with a mild distain, forcing the young giant to do the work of a common servant; cleaning, cooking, and running errands. He was not allowed to learn magic, for he was at an elven academy where only elves were taught the arts. Norson expressed interest in learning, but the wizards of the academy refused. When Norson learned to read and write Elvish, Luhton and he exchanged letters. He learned of the unfortunate circumstances of his birth and the death of his father, the chieftain of the frost giant tribe. Luhton omitted the part about the angry villagers and the council's vote for his death, feeling that the information was unnecessary and would only cause him harm. Over the years, Luhton and Norson corresponded through letters, and although they were fairly infrequent, Norson always looked forward to them.

One day in the wizard academy, sometime after Norson's 17th birthday, Luhton became the subject of conversation for his work in uncovering some ancient scrolls. During his cleaning duties, Norson eavesdropped on a few wizards who were talking on the subject. The conversation slowly drifted to Norson himself; the wizards discussed his arrival at the academy and Norson heard the wizards comment on the vote at the village, agreeing that such a child would only have caused more pain in the elven village. Norson also heard the wizards discuss how Luhton sent Norson to their academy, for the wizard felt only pity for the giant.

Norson felt betrayed by Luhton, the wizard he had almost come to consider his new father. He was hurt and depressed and felt an outcast in the academy; in all of elven society. He resolved to leave the academy. Having spent his life growing up around magic, he desired to learn the arts for himself. He knew of no wizard who would teach him until he heard the wizards at the academy speak of an elf who had recently been given the name [[Gwerion]]. He was a powerful war wizard who served the king himself. Gwerion was reportedly exiled from the kingdom for using unethical magic in battle with enemies of the elven nation.

Knowing only the wizard's new name and that he was reportedly living in the mountains to the north, Norson left the academy early one morning and traveled north through elven country. He was not mistreated in his travels but neither was he welcomed due to his half-breed nature. He spent his nights sleeping in the stables for the rooms in the inn were intended for elven-sized occupants. He reached the northern edge of the elven nation and learned from some local townspeople that Gwerion was living in a tower in a valley in the mountains. The warmage welcomed no visitors and turned back all who approached his home.

With little to lose and an unquenchable desire to learn magic that had only been strengthened in his travels, Norson located the tower of the war wizard. Gwerion refused him entrance, but Norson was not to be dissuaded; he sat before the door to the tower, only moving to relieve himself and only consuming the water and rations he had with him, for a solid week. Gwerion was both impressed and curious about the dedication possessed by this half-giant and agreed to teach him the wizarding arts.

Norson was a quick learner, but there was a vast amount of material to cover. An elven wizard could easily spend a century learning magic. Norson dedicated his entire life to his studies; he learned combat magic, he practiced with sword and armor, he fought against constructs summoned by Gwerion. He neglected the tradition fields of magic – divination and conjuration, for example – to follow in the footsteps of his mentor. Gwerion was a war wizard and taught Norson what he knew best; the school of evocation.

A decade passed as Norson learned the arts of war from Gwerion. He mastered magic that could topple buildings and dispatch foes. He was skilled with the greatsword and the large suit of breastplate that had been crafted specifically for him. Shortly before his 25th birthday, Norson traveled to the elven village where he had been born. He avoided the villagers, feeling no particular desire to see any of them, including Luhton, and traveled into the nearby mountains. After a few days of searching, Norson located the grave of his father. The valley was small, containing only a scattering of rusted armor and the bones of the dead frost giants. Brush had overgrown everything and Norson spent many hours uncovering the final resting places of his kin. He paid his respects to the grave of his father and left.

Norson completed his training under Gwerion the day of his 27th birthday. He left the tower one week after graduation, and, after stocking supplies in the local village, set out to find his destiny.

Zael is a character played by [[Will]]. He is a human Cleric worshiping an Elven goddess, [[Llon]]. He focuses on his Llon's teachings of Heroism and Liberation. Like other worshippers of his goddess, he is skilled at using the bow. Prior to dedicating his life to his goddess, he as a blacksmith and fletcher, both of which he plans on using to further his goals.

== Personality ==

Zael understands that sometimes the best option truly is to fire four arrows into someone's face and Speak with Dead later, but that other times more subtly is required. Despite his faith encouraging courageously charging into battle and letting the Gods of War decide who lives, he understands that in cases where you're attempting to overthrow an empire that is marauding throughout the continent, blindly charging isn't always the best option. However, he can only restrain himself so long. He is not a cunning man, and can't hold back forever. This peculiar understanding that Zael has arose due to seeing the horrors of what the Sa'Enkadian army did to [[Cantur]].

He prides utility, and to that end has learned how to make magical weapons to help him in his endeavors. Being able to study a situation and having the right arrow for it is something that highly appeals to Zael.

He's a charming man, and has learned how to deal with people efficiently from his time delivering weapons to purchasers. When being charming can make the difference between a free meal before the return trip or not, it pays to know a few tricks.

Due to his focus on creating weapons, he did not have the time that others had to learn about the world.

== Early life ==
Zael was born into a family of handimen in the village of [[Kelnon]], along the border of Awn Tellan. His father was a blacksmith who specialized in making tools, and his mother was a handweaver. At the age of 9, he became interested in the work of his father, and started to train under him, learning the fundamentals of the blacksmithing trade. Around this time, the Sa'Enkadian empire launched its war to conquer the continent, and his father thought it prudent to send Zael to a blacksmith who could teach him the way of making weapons. Zael was sent to the city of [[Cantur]], a place well known for its quality weapons.

== Life in Cantur ==

In Cantur, Zael apprenticed under a weaponsmith who taught him how to make weapons and bows. During his third year of apprenticeship, Zael was sent on a routine delivery of crossbows to a neighboring town that had ordered crossbows in case the Sa'Enkadians or bandits attacked, and it was Zael's job to deliver them. Since there was a good road between the towns, all he took was the cart full of crossbows and a horse to pull the cart. However, halfway between the towns he and his horse were attacked my ravenous wolves. Zael quickly jumped into the cart while watching the wolves tear the horse to shreds. Cursing his master for forgetting to supply crossbow bolts, Zael cowered behind the wooden railing of the cart, hoping beyond hope that a wolf wouldn't find its way up. And since being eaten alive by ravenous wolves wouldn't make for a very interesting (or workable) character backstory, as luck would have it, a cleric of the temple of [[Llon]] was out in the area gathering herbs for the temple apothecary.

It was following the Sa'Enkadian raid that Zael decided to set out on his own to Sa'Enkad, to learn what he could of the place and it's people, and to see if he could affect change there.

He ended up in Unnamed Town, and was promptly arrested for tax evasion. Shortly before his jail sentence was up, he was set free by [[Darvin]]. Once free, he gathered up his equipment, and fled with the other escapees to the city of [[Pradhan]] to lay low for a while.

Raina is a human wizard/rogue played by [[Randi]].

== Early Years ==

Raina comes from a small village. She lived her entire life in the village, marrying a handsome local farmer and raising children where she grew up. She only left her village once to travel to the capital on a pilgrimage.

Her live was ordinary in every way until a few months after her 31st birthday and birth of her third child. A vampire lord named [[Relnareth]] moved to a nearby and declared the surrounding countryside as his domain. Relnareth vigorously defended his domain, driving off many of the other supernatural predators in the area and inadvertently making the area safer. An old priest named [[Jorda]] from Raina's village learned of Relnareth's true nature and began to publicly denounce him. In order to silence the rumors before they spread, Relnareth visited Jorda's house one evening, the evening Raina was visiting Jorda to bless her newborn baby, and tore the priest limb from limb. Relnareth turned Raina and considered for a moment killing the baby, but instead left with his new prize.

== Lost Years ==

Raina had a hard time adjusting to life as a vampire spawn. She lived her life in a haze, spending the next 60 years as a minion of her new vampire lord. She fed and she obeyed, forced into servitude by the bond between spawn and lord. Her life had lost meaning and she cared for no one - not even Relnareth. She was his minion, but she hated him more than the eternal fires of hell for the curse he had brought to her.

One night, roughly sixty years after Raina was cursed with vampirism, Relnareth sent her on a routine task to collect protection money from one of the city's merchants. On her way, she stopped to feed on a beggar in an alley. He was sick from some plague that was spreading throughout the city, but Raina's undead nature meant she had nothing to fear from such trivial concerns. Raina fed, but did not realize he was an aasimar - a human with celestial heritage. His blood burned like nothing Raina had ever experienced before. The searing pain encompassed her thoughts and she lay in the alley for hours, screaming and thrashing in agony.

When Raina woke an hour later in a prison cell, she woke with a clarity of vision she had not possessed since before her turning. She affected an escape from her cell and returned to Relnareth, serving him for several more months. Raina learned everything she could about his operation, his base, his influence, and his reach. Armed with that knowledge, Raina left the city one evening in the post-dusk twilight and ventured the capital of [[Sa'Enkad]].

== Life in the Capital ==

Raina has lived in the capital for eight years. She worked as a maid, cleaning the mansions of the moderately wealthy. She earned the favor of one of her employers, a retired wizard-general named [[Tondrun]]. After convincing him of her sharp intellect and desire to serve [[Sa'Enkad]], Tondrun taught her the fundamentals of magic. Raina would arrive in the evening after sunset, learn the fundamentals of magic from Tondrun, and then clean his estate through the nighttime hours. She kept her feeding in the capital city to the barest minimum, as the embrace constantly reminded her of the evil Relnareth had done onto her.

Convinced that magic was the sole cure for her disease, Raina pushed Tondrun to learn more. However, he grew hesitant to teach her more, telling her that it was the academy's responsibility to train wizards. The fellow cleaning staff began whispering about how Raina never seemed to age, never seemed to tire, and Raina quickly realized she was falling out of favor with her employer. She left shortly thereafter and traveled across the desert to the coastal city of [[Pradhan]].

Pradhan was much different from the capital. Raina found an apartment down by the docks. With a vibrant night-life, she had little reason to fear being caught in the sun because of a social situation. She works as a barmaid in a seaside tavern, focusing on her magical abilities in her free time and doing her best to avoid or vampire master.

[[Vae]] has funded 14 separate sailing expeditions in an effort to expands the borders of the known world.

Roughly 1,000 gp was spent on each vessel, providing them with the finest ship and finest crew (to include one experienced wizard, one apprentice wizard, and one druid). Each ship is a gallery and has a top speed of 100 miles per day. The ships are small, fast, and maneuverable. The hull of each ship has been magically strengthened. The funding also includes:
* Magical clairvoyance devices to help ship captains pinpoint their location

[[Fortune]] was a bit too dwarven for your tastes. So much destruction in the name of gold or wealth or shinies or whatever it was this week that had everyone in a tizzy. Perhaps the trip down the mountains to the city of [[Perenth]] was to prove to yourself that there was a place for you out there. A place to tend to living things, hunt, fish, survive! At least a place where you can hear yourself think would be preferable to the hustle and bustle of Fortune.

The first few days in Perenth proved vastly different from Fortune. By no means a small town; the city is full of life moving here and there. However, the people here are genuinely interested in each other. Neighbors still share a cup of sugar and stop to make conversation in the square. You could sit and watch the marketplace for hours as people pass here and there. They are less interested in you, a stranger, a dwarf, an outsider.

As the days pass you notice the whispers are more hushed, less smiles and time for talk. The people are concerned by a growing darkness across the sea. Much of this town's livelihood comes from fishing and trading, but the men that come off the seas are ragged and worn with bad news and dark tales from every port. You enter your favored tavern, the [[Maiden Mermaid]], one evening to find the bartender nervously eyeing patrons, strangers, and regulars alike. [[Tedan]], the burly man behind the counter washes glasses as you sit at the bar. He slides you a tall glass of fine dwarven mead before looking directly at you. In hushed tones he begins to speak to you, probably because you see eye to eye due to your similar ranger nature. "Travelers from near the coast talk about a rising darkness. There are things out there. Things that steal animals, and children. No one has seen what they are, their true shape, but they are quick, dark, and lethal. They say we are safe here in the city, but I don’t know how long that will last..." he pauses to notice he has been cleaning the same glass for the past several minutes and dart his eyes again around the tavern.

== Arriving in [[Perenth]] ==

Good riddance to that one horse town! With [[Taom]] far behind you, you feel like turning over a new leaf. [[Perenth]] is a much bigger, better city. It lies on the coast so there will be plenty of new people and new ideas. There are sure to be much more more-interesting people there. After a few days worth of flying, you should be there, ready to make a name for yourself as an alchemist. It is quite the dream, but you just know you can do it.

Around dusk you can finally see Perenth on the horizon, and it looks like a storm of some sort must be brewing in the south. You fly into the night, toward the looming storm with its ominous clouds and eerie lightning. Was that lightning? It didn’t really move the way any lightning you have ever seen before… it looked more like fire, maybe? Or an explosion? You aren’t sure, but it doesn’t sit right with you as you approach the edges of Perenth.

There are strange shrieks in the distance behind you, away from the city, and you hurry a little faster toward the buildings and roads. You find the nearest inn, the [[Maiden Mermaid]] and send your friend to perch on a nearby roof until you call again. Inside the inn, people are deathly quiet and they eye you as you enter. Are they looking at your hand? Or your hair? You hurry up to the bar and jump up to a stool and try to get the barkeep’s attention.
