Day 1
We left Burgry today for the halfling country. We're to be guarding 5 wagons and a mixture of halflings and humans - 24 people in total. Levnar requested we stay toward the front of the caravan to keep an eye out for danger. Our destination is Totiville. We are to meet a halfling named Borgby.
I met Tarlan, driver of the first caravan. He says he's worked with Levnar for a few years now and does this route every few months. He told me all about the attacks that have previously taken place, notably how the orcs attack from the front. Tarlan claims the halflings are tough fighters are capable of defending the rear. I spoke with them, and they definitely seem capable.
Cargo in front caravan: nice metals, leather, goods for frontier town under siege by orcs. Says there is precious cargo elsewhere in the caravan. Korgin is riding with Tarlan, wasn't very talkative. Apparently has good aim with his bow.
Day 4
We were attacked by orcish raiders today - 21 of them. They attacked as we were resting, so we had plenty of time to prepare. 3 of our party were killed - all humans. The orcs had two shaman in their company, but they had no opportunity to cast spells. The 3 halfling warrioresses were badly injured, but fought very bravely. Sakar single-handedly killed the leader, who reportedly didn't put up much of a fight. Tork - Main - Volour were the three who died in combat.
Day 5
We suffered an orcish abmush today - 2 more of our party died. The orcs attacked out of the forest, just as we were reaching the edge of orcish territory. They had trolls among their company - giant beasts! They were exceedingly tough, but we managed to kill them anyway. However, during combat the rear 3 caravans (run by halflings) tried to flee the party, even though we were winning the combat. Eedlyn and I intercepted the traitorous halflings, and Eedlyn was mortally wounded by the very halflings we were protecting. I subdued the 6 halflings, although I could not help but inflict some on several of the traitors. Kelama - Tealan - Dolamiteme - Melentek - sleeping halfling - unnamed halfling were the halfling traitors. Jarin - Kenim were the two who died in combat. Again, the halfling warrioresess fought very bravely.
The halflings tried to take the last three wagons, which held:
- Wagon 5: barrels of ale, magical potions and ingredients (ruby dust, cockatrice feathers, etc) in jars, bags, and trunks, all disguised as an ale wagon.
- Wagon 4: the food supply, hidden the floorboards were 11 bricks of gold.
- Wagon 3: ammunition and weapons (additionally shiny, small people weapons).
The other wagons:
- Wagon 2: general equipment, horse harnesses, long sticks (future polearms), food, etc.
- Wagon 1: nice metals, leather, goods for frontier town under siege by orcs
I made an extensive list of the cargo we are carrying. I do not trust Borgby to be honest about what belongs to him. To get the contraband, he will have to specifically request it (even though I have no intention on giving it to him). However, by requesting it, it will prove he knew about the contraband, and I can claim to have no knowledge of it. If he doesn't request it, all the better - we will keep it.
As for the halflings, we plan on keeping them and running them to your custody.
Day 8
Everything went according to plan - Borgry seemed to be searching for something extra in the wagons, but we did not let on that we had knowledge of the contraband. Borgry accepted the goods and we made our exchange.
Sakar did some interrogations today:
- Tialan - one of the two who ran away. Donbeck would pay her 10x to take caravans and follow him.
- female - Kelama - fainted - Donbeck said it belonged to Borgby. Getting paided 5x what Levnar paid.
- dorky - Lorna Babblebee - did it for the money.
- dorky - Dolamiteme - didn't know anything
- brother (sleeping) - Donbeck - leader - Borgby would pay lots more to take supplies to unknown halfling village.
Meet man at docks, get contraband (tall, cloaked figure, girlier than Levnar). Borgby had them to go to Levnar. Wanted to do business with Levnar because he's the only one who would go through orc country. brother - Melnatek - got wife and kids. Borgby chose them specifically. 2nd meeting with cloaked figure, went with, definitely a girl figure. Had 2 burly half-orc body guards. Shiny sword.
Day 10
We were attacked by 10 halflings rogues today at dusk. It looked as if they had planned to kill us in their sleep. They were most likely sent by Borgby. They were quite vicious fighters, but we suffered no casualties. Sakar spotted a figure on the horizon, but it retreated as Eedlyn and I approached.
Day 11
Sakar chased down the figure this morning, it turned out to be an elven ranger by the name of Maeawill. She's been fighting orcs in the country for some time and has noticed the recent militarization of the halflings. She emphasized that this was very recent - she has been watching over them for hundreds of years.
Day 16
We returned to Burgry today.
