Background Orst comes from a family of dwarven mercenaries in Jottol. He's a lawful good fighter/cleric who was trained in both these disciplines by people in his clan. His immediate family members are his father and mother (whom I have not named) and his younger brother, Tios. His clan is somewhat poor; I imagine them as a clan with lots of past prestige but whom have not done much of prestige in recent times. A lot of their poverty comes from their occupation as a group of lawful good mercenaries; they're somewhat selective on the jobs they'll take up. This makes their mercenary job selection somewhat limited. For in-game reference, Orst's cleric domains are strength and war. Immediately preceding the campaign, Orst wrote the following letter to his parents:
I'm sorry I had to disappear like this, but I know you wouldn't agree with my choice. I know you've always taught me that the life of a mercenary means to never bite off more than you can chew, but I need to go on this mission, for you, for me, and for Zelantar. In my haste to depart, I do not think I will have time to thank everyone who needs thanking. If you could pass on a few words for me, I would be in your debt. Firstly, give my thanks to Matix. Without him, I would not be half the mercenary I am today. Thank him for his persistence in forcing me to work hard, even in my early days when I could barely even hold up my waraxe. Give my thanks to Forthin as well. Let him know that I shall continue to honor the Father of Battle with every breath I draw, and that I know he will see me through to the end of my trials. Please tell Forthin that I am thankful for his patience as well in teaching me the importance of honoring our gods. Watch over Tios. I wish I could stay and watch him grow up, to aid in his instruction in the ways of battle. Let him know that I promise to return, and that I'm doing this so that he can have a better life. But just as importantly, don't forget to watch over yourselves. I'm sorry that I must leave you like this, to run things on your own, but I know that you'll do fine. Besides, you must see how this is necessary, as well. Finally, thank you to both of you. Thank you for raising me, training me, guiding me, and teaching me. I know that you will be with me in everything that I do before I return home. And I will return home, I promise. For you, for me, and for Zelantar.
For the glory of Clanggedin Silverbeard,
Orst
Campaign Orst Strongbeard demonstrated his abilities in front of Queen Venia by healing her and fighting off 5 militia. He still awaits her response.
